The Grandmont Community Association (GCA) Youth & Education Committee hosted its annual Reading in Ramsay Park: Home Library Edition and Back to School Supplies & Backpack Giveaway on Saturday, August 17th at Douglas Ramsay Park.
Reading in Ramsay Park: Home Library Edition, celebrates and raises awareness for literacy, highlights resources in our community and supports our children as they head back to school.
This FREE family friendly event included a Free Book Giveaway for ages 1 to 100+, made possible with a generous donation of over 1000 books from the 313Reads: Detroit Literacy Coalition, Books in the D Initiative, courtesy of The Molina Foundation with support from Detroit Kiwanis Club No.1, Detroit Achievement Academy and representatives from the Detroit Public Library Chaney and Redford Branches in attendance.
Through the generosity of Grandmont “Good Neighbors”, the Grandmont-Rosedale Communities, personal donations and community busi- nesses, we collected over 200 backpacks and numerous school supplies to distribute to attendees.
