Dear Grandmont Neighbors,
I hope that you’re doing well despite the turbulent times we are living in. What we are experiencing across the country reminds us all that community is vitally important. Take care of one another. Look out for each other. We are stronger together. I hope that Grandmont continues to thrive and work together, no matter what comes our way, to protect our neighbors.
In lighter news, I am grateful to have gotten some clarity around our history here in Grandmont. You may not be aware, but even amongst those of us who are very involved, there was some confusion about when Grandmont was founded. I suppose, in a way, there are 3 answers, depending on what you are looking for when it comes to “founding.” 1923 is the year that the first house that makes up Grandmont was built – a Farmhouse on Rutland and Schoolcraft that is still standing today. Then, 1926 was what I thought the founding was because of this article, https://www.blac.media/news-features/fostering-grandmont-rosedale/, sharing that the neighborhoods that comprise GRDC were incorporated into Detroit in 1926. I still feel like being officially part of Detroit is a birthday worth celebrating. However, it is 1927 that the Association was first recognized and established, making the Grandmont Community Association’s 100th birthday coming up next year. As someone who likes to extend her birthday celebrations as long as possible, I think it is okay if we recognize this year, 2026, and next year, 2027, as our centennial celebrations. We will be sure to include the historical documents on our website to share our history.
Looking forward to all we have coming up in quarter 1 and the beginning of quarter 2 The College and Skilled Trades Expo and another Skating Party in March, and our Annual Meeting on April 11! Please be sure to pay your dues, vote, and consider getting involved in a committee or running for the board! Community is at the heart of everything that makes a 100-year-old neighborhood amazing. Let’s keep it that way.
In service,

President, GCA
Volunteers are the heart of a community. Our volunteers are a valuable resource for our fast-growing, fast-paced neighborhood.
Our neighborhood relies on our volunteers for everything from staffing special events, such as the Ramsey Park Clean-Up and Community Garden.
We are grateful to all of those who have committed and donated their time to helping our community thrive, but there is still much more to do! Our community needs your help to preserve this work. Grandmont’s membership dues help to provide critical services for our community and neighbors every year. Membership dues help provide snow removal services, safety, beautification, and other services for our community. Every contribution counts and matters! Membership dues for residents are $30 for the calendar year (January- December) and $15 for residents who live in the Southfield and Longacre Apartments. Please consider becoming a Grandmont Community Association member and contributing to our community today! The Grandmont Community Association offers online payment of annual dues ($30) + $2 convenience fee. You will be able to renew your membership or pay for past or future memberships.
