March 2024 GCA Board Meeting Recap
- GCA was approved for a $10,000 grant by Huntington Bank and if you have ideas for how the funds can be used, please send them to Samantha and Diane.
- Jenise discussed the premise behind “Won’t You Be My Neighbor Day” which is celebrated on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
- Our current membership goal is 300 members and as of this meeting date, we have 90 members. Hoping between the annual meeting and membership drives to meet our goal for the year.
- Environmental discussed bulk trees, wood, sticks, etc. being placed on the curb/berm improperly. There was follow-up regarding the concerns with food trucks and whether a property is categorized as either a private residence, Airbnb or rental home.
- The City has approximately 5000 trees to plant and will speak with forestry and the Greening of Detroit to see if Grandmont can get involved.
- The following updates were provided by the VPTF – five (5) houses were reported to BSEED D1 Inspector Derek Brown; it is being investigated whether shipping containers parked on privately owned lots are illegal; the semi trucks/trailers parked illegally in the Bushnell parking lot have or will be ticketed; the Greenfield Dino-Mite Crusher hearing is scheduled to take place March 21st; and there are currently five (5) houses with sales pending.
- Susan Hood has been voted in as a member of Rippling Hope. The Annual Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled to take place Saturday, March 30th.
- The Scholarship committee is in the process of revising the scholarship process and creating a succession plan. Committee is currently accepting applications and the deadline is June 15, 2024. The committee will be hosting a college fair in 2025.
- Social Planning is busily preparing for the annual community business meeting. Requesting that committee chairs submit their annual reports. Also, discussed possible training dates for the new board after the annual meeting.
- Youth and Education discussed a possible grant opportunity, the partnership with 313Reads and provided updates on the upcoming Youth & Community Expo. Discussed possible marketing/branding ideas and samples were presented to the Board. Discussion took place of possible fundraising and membership incentive ideas.
