Kiwanis Detroit Club No. 1 Books for Kids Distribution Warehouse on Milwaukee Street is an organization that donates new books to community organizations, schools, libraries, and churches. Its director, Sheila Connolly, has been extremely resourceful and enthusiastic. Furthermore, she has motivated her volunteers to be enthusiastic as well! Kiwanis is commendable and impactful. Kiwanis is most noted for the following:
- “Creating a world where every individual has the opportunity to explore the joy of reading and learning.”
- “Fostering a love of books and knowledge within every Detroit Community.”
- “An organization that understands the transformative power of books.”
- “A beacon of hope, providing access to reading materials for all.”
Their donation has assisted us in reaching our vision. The GCA Youth and Education Committee’s Vision is the help children develop language skills, improve comprehension and profoundly expand their vocabularies by reading books.
The Kiwanis Club has donated books to several of our Grandmont Community Events for years. The list of events include: Grandmont Annual Business Meeting, Rolling with Grandmont Skating Party, Longacre Street Party, Spring Break Sunday Fun Day, Reading at Ramsay Park Back to School Supplies/Backpack Giveaway, and Trunk-or-Treat with Edison Elementary School.
