LAWN CARE: While you may not have the best lawn on your block, please don’t have the worst! It just takes a little time to pick up the trash, sweep the street, cut the grass, and be mindful of putting your bagged trash out (and removed) according to city ordinance. Flowers, trees. and maintained shrubs add just the right touch to your welcoming home. We especially appreciate the corner lot owners’ cooperation with this, as your homes are the entrances to our community. A good first impression of Grandmont begins with you! Thank you.
SAFETY REMINDER from the Fire Department – NO GRILLING ON PORCHES OR FRONT YARDS. Detroit City Council added amendments to the Open Burning Ordinance, Chapter 30 of the Detroit City Code, Sec.19-1-111-115, that regulates outdoor cooking.
- The operation of an outdoor cooking unit must be in a location that is: within the rear yard or the side yard of private property and not within 10 feet of any fixed flammable object or property line.
- Not directly beneath a roof or enclosure.
- Under direct supervision of the property owner, lessee, or owner on the unit
WHAT THIS MEANS IS: No more grilling on front porches or front yards. The grill cannot be within 10 feet of the neighbor’s fence or yard. The grill cannot be within 10 feet of your house, garage, or shed.
Any person engaged in unlawful open burning shall be responsible for a municipal civil infraction subject to assessments of a civil fine of up to $500. For more information contact our neighborhood police officers.
Another friendly reminder, if your bulk items or branches are NOT picked up due to non-compliance, please call for a reasonably priced City Paid Pick-up Service Estimate. Call 313-876-0004 for more information.
And a few Upcoming Summer Reminders: Parties-Noise.
While family and friends are part of community, so are common sense suggestions to keep good neighbors from becoming next-door foes. Celebrations are to be anticipated, and noise is expected when it doesn’t infringe on your neighbors’ or community rights to a peaceful evening.
The definition of noise includes “any sound that is undesired or interferes with one’s hearing of something; loud, confused, or senseless shouting or outcry, etc.” Often, the music you hear is not what your neighbors hear. Often, it’s just the base “thump, thump, thump” that is created with too loud of a sound system. Please be considerate of people’s (adult & children) work schedules and sleep needs.
If neighbor communication doesn’t work, you can report noise pollution to your Neighborhood Police Officer (313-590-5199) if you are willing to make a complaint, or call 911 to have a record of the incident on file for investigation.
Street Safety – Speeding is just senseless – don’t do it in our community for everyone’s safety.
No Basketball Playing in the Street. Please be mindful that basketball hoops and games are not permitted in neighborhood streets by Ordinance Article 1, Section 50-1-12. This can be tragic with one misstep or uncontrolled vehicle or distracted, careless driver. Don’t put children at risk.
