Beautification and Garden Committee, Grandmont News to You

WELCOME NEW NEIGHBORS! Please consider getting involved and supporting community events. We need you.

Words worth repeating by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “A HOUSE is made of walls and beams; a HOME is built with love and dreams.” Make your Grandmont house YOUR home!

Coretta Scott King said, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” I believe she also counted on many hands making a lighter load and most likely encouraged people to get involved in their neighborhoods while addressing personal responsibility for our actions.

Choices are made. Not all choices are good choices, but we are capable of being better, doing more, and helping when we can. It’s good to realize that kindness and caring are meant for sharing. I think Grandmont can be proud of the good we accomplish (even if not enough people are contributing financially to our success). Everyone benefits.

This is the perfect time for everyone to take a look around their home this spring season and make a good choice to clean up, fixup, and come up with ways to better our Grandmont Community that will leave future generations a proud legacy. Kindness and compassion need to be part of that legacy.

● TURN OFF THE NEWS AND GET IN THE GARDEN!

DID YOU KNOW THERE IS A GRANDMONT ROSEDALE COMMUNITY GARDEN located in Grandmont at 15025 Archdale (behind the White Castle on Grand River). Always looking for new volunteers who will be able to reap the benefits and learn or teach a few things in the process. The Spring/Summer Schedule is: Wednesday’s at 6pm and Saturday’s at 10am. Please bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and gloves if needed. An added reminder is their request for a $25 donation per household for the year. This amount is estimated to cover costs for this year (compost, supplies, fence repair, taxes, etc.). This is a DONATION and not a member fee. Please contribute as/if you are able. Donations can be given to Vicki McLellan (cash, check, or Venmo) at VickiMcLellan@Vicki-McLellan-1 For more information contact Vicki at GRCommGarden@gmail.com

A few Upcoming Summer Reminders: Parties-Noise.

While family and friends are part of community, so are common sense suggestions to keep good neighbors from becoming next-door foes. Celebrations are to be anticipated, and noise is expected when it doesn’t infringe on your neighbors’ or community rights to a peaceful evening. The definition of noise includes “any sound that is undesired or interferes with one’s hearing of something; loud, confused, or senseless shouting or outcry, etc.” Often, the music you hear is not what your neighbors hear. Often, it’s just the base “thump, thump, thump” that is created with too loud of a sound system. Please be considerate of people’s (adult & children) work schedules and sleep needs.

●    If neighbor communication doesn’t work, you can report noise pollution to your Neighborhood Police Officer (313-590-5199) if you are willing to make a complaint, or call 911 to have a record of the incident on file for investigation.

Street Safety – Speeding is just senseless – don’t do it in our community for everyone’s safety. Also, please be mindful that basketball hoops and games are not permitted in neighborhood streets by Ordinance Article 1, Section 50-1-12.-1-12.
