The Grandmont Community is thankful for our good neighbors. Neighbors who continue to give to their community by their good works and actions, their volunteerism, their good house and groundskeeping, and their contributions toward our better quality of life in the Grandmont Community. THANK YOU.
Our volunteer committees work hard -and smart– to better our quality of life in Grandmont. Many phone calls, meetings, etc., happen almost daily to help keep our neighborhood a safe and attractive place to call “home”. Our best quality is our dedicated neighbors. The eyes, ears and voice of our community. The good neighbors who make that extra effort to keep their property clean and well maintained and support “good neighbor” actions. THANK YOU!
Special thanks to those neighbors living on corner lots whose homes are entranceways to our neighborhood. That extra care is noticed and appreciated. (There is room for improvement on a few corner homes. Please be aware that your house is an entranceway to our community and plan to do better in the future.)
We are Thankful for you paying your $30.00 yearly dues and for the added donations we receive. We could do more with more participation. $30.00 is a bargain for the services you and your family receive. Isn’t it time you paid your fair share.
VACANT PROPERTY TASK FORCE (VPTF)
Ethel Smith, Debra Parnell, and I met at Rosa’s on Oct 18 to discuss our recent survey of vacant houses in Grandmont and to strategize best practices to determine ownership and establish communication. There was a VPTF meeting on Oct 15 at the GRDC Workplace to determine interest in commercial, business areas as well as residential vacancies. Help is needed if we take on this added workload. Interested?
GOOD NEWS – Our committee also received confirmation that the beautification grant is approved for our 5 communities. In Grandmont, money has been earmarked for vacant lot cutting, corner plantings, signage, dirt, etc., as well as tree planting. Please contact me if you are interested in planting/maintaining a corner area in Grandmont. Funds are available to do some of the purchasing and prep work.
MORE GOOD NEWS – The Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA) finally stepped up to return the “Ramsay house” on Rutland back to the LB. This house has been deteriorating since 2013 and the “owner” has neglected to repair this house and return it to a habitable and expected condition to add value to our community. A Nuisance Abatement posting by the DLBA on a house on Rutland/Schoolcraft is another tactic used to persuade the owner to make the necessary repairs and maintain the outside of this property. And lastly, vehicles parked on the lawn on private property have finally been removed by the police/towing company at a house on Longacre after many years without other solutions. Thank you to everyone who worked to make this possible.
STREET PARKING: SAFETY AND UPCOMING STREET SNOW SERVICE INFO
Another friendly reminder! Cars need to be parked off the street and in your driveway or garage for this winter season. Please try your best to make that happen. Safer streets are a result of that action. And our view is certainly better. Our snow service depends on community cooperation so that the contract we pay for is done to everyone’s satisfaction.
Did you know? Cars are considered abandoned on the street if they haven’t moved in 48 hours. Our Radio Patrol will be canvassing the neighborhood and will report non-compliant vehicles.
It’s a known fact that cars parked on the street are more susceptible to theft and/or vandalism. Vehicles are more likely to be side swiped and damaged especially in winter while parked on our narrow icy streets. Let’s work together and make our neighborhood safer for everyone. Your neighbors, family & friends, mail carriers & delivery drivers, and all first responders will all appreciate safer passage. Help make that happen for a safer holiday season – all year round!
Additionally, if snow is in the forecast, please get in the habit of placing your garbage can and bulk items on the berm and not in the street. Thank you.
