Good Neighbors, Longacre Block PArty

Our 2nd Annual Longacre Street Party was a grand success. Our adorable flyer was designed by our new neighbor Josh Bertram- it was so fun, engaging and just down right cute!

Our good neighbors enjoyed warm, sunny weather and the neighbors and community came out and had an amazing time together. It was so nostalgic. A special shout out to our host homes: Sue/Tony Hood, Danielle Jackson and Justin/Jenise who all dashed from our community meeting to set up food, tables/chairs, games, etc. to ensure our neighbors had a great time! They did a fabulous job!

Everyone enjoyed interacting with existing neighbors and meeting new neighbors from our community. The kids and adults enjoyed the scavenger hunt and food, especially the fish that was donated by a good neighbor Tony Ballard and cooked to perfection by Dee Ruffin! Our good neighbor Sherrie Shepherd from the Coloring Museum had the cutest display for the kids to color and relax. Our neighbor Makaiyla was our featured face painter! She transformed faces from Hello Kitty to Butterflies. Our Rutland neighbor Mike Payne & his Elemental Jazz band kicked things off for the day with smooth jazz and R & B. Our good neighbor Carey Morgan gave us beautiful memories with instant photos from his photo booth. Our neighbors Curtis/Debra Parnell and Mike/Cheryl Kelly along with Isaac/Marie Winfree & Jenise Collins provided gift cards as scavenger hunt prizes! Kenyette/Jarrette Booker donated candy bags for the kids. Phil/Cora Duncan-Foster, Deolis/ Cicely Allen and Darius donated ice cream/popsicles and delicious cakes.

Detroit Fire was in the house. The kids had an opportunity to tour the truck and spray the water hose. Thank you to LeJuan Counts for securing the truck. Steve Sturkey the hustle instructor was a fan favorite. Mr. T was our balloon artist that wowed kids and adults with his creative designs at our new neighbor Robert Gilmore’s home. Many neighbors brought out their lawn chairs, tents, music, crafts and games.

I want to thank GCA for helping to ensure the LSP happened with so many good neighbors that also contributed. The planning for this event started in May with petitioning to get 75% of our neighbors to agree. We had an overwhelming number of neighbors that were more than happy to say yes!! It warmed my heart with joy to see families out together, the laughter of kids just being kids and community engagement at its finest.

I am excited and looking forward to a 3-peat for the Longacre Street Party in 2025. Teamwork truly made the vision come to life. We truly lived up to our motto of The home of Good neighbors!

With a grateful heart,
